Meghan Markle’s new brand American Riviera Orchard quickly gained popularity but faces delays as it struggles to find a CEO
Meghan Markle has delayed the launch of her new lifestyle brand as she searches for a CEO, the Financial Times reports. New York PostLong Island University).
On March 14, a trailer for American Riviera Orchard, a line of kitchen and living products named after the couple’s coastal California home, went viral. Despite the buzz, the search for the right leader presented a major setback for the brand.
Sources told the New York Post: “The numbers don’t lie and the fact that nearly 20 staff members have resigned speaks for itself.” They added that Prince Harry and Meghan are “demanding and difficult to work for,” which has frustrated employees.
Markle’s most recent chief of staff, Josh Kettler, left after just three months on the job. Kettler, a PR expert who was hired to help Prince Harry with his public affairs, including a trip to London for the Invictus Games, left after just three months on the job. His departure was considered mutually agreed, with both parties agreeing he was not the right person for the position.
Despite these setbacks, Markle’s brand has made a splash with its first products. In March, she sent strawberry jam to select celebrities, marking a strong start for American Riviera Orchard. The brand’s Instagram account features a vintage-style video showing Markle in the kitchen, hinting at the brand’s focus on family, cooking and entertaining.
The brand’s trademark application shows that its product line is quite diverse, including kitchenware, edible snacks such as jams and sauces, and even cosmetics. The name “American Riviera” refers to Santa Barbara, California, where Markle and Harry live, an area known for its Mediterranean climate and lush landscapes.
While a release date has not yet been confirmed, reports suggest American Riviera Orchard is expected to debut in the second half of 2024. The brand’s Instagram profile states it was “founded in 2024” and is described as a reflection of Markle’s personal style and interests.
